BRMS PEER HELPERS
Peer Helpers are students who are trained to recognize when their peers may have a problem, listen to fellow students confidentially and assist them with emotional, societal, or academic struggles.
Who We're Looking For..
If you meet the following qualifications, you have the background to become a Peer Helper:
- Easy to talk to and others turn to for guidance
- Conveys non-judgmental attitudes
- A caring personality
- Willing to help a friend or others in need
- Trustworthy
- Respectful
- Good academic standing
Peer Helper Requirements:
- 6th-8th Grade
- Have grade-point average of 3.0 (B average)
- No Major Discipline (ISS or OSS)
- Have 2 teacher recommendations concerning your responsibility, desire to serve others, etc.
- 2 Written Essays; 1 required & 1 Choice
Required Essay Topic:
- What is a Peer Helper to you? How do you feel peers can help one another at Blackmon Road? What impact do you hope to make with your peers?
Choice Essay Topics:
Please select one topic.
- Briefly explain your future goals and how this experience can help you in achieving those goals. (1 page)
- List any personal experiences, strengths, training, or jobs you have had that you feel would enable you to be more effective in helping others. (1 page)
- Describe how you have helped someone in the last 3 months. (1 page)
